2019-06-13 Elder Update

We all go through times in life where we wonder “Is God in this?” “Have I made the right decision at work, for my family, etc?” “I don’t know where this path leads…”

In John 15 we find this promise from Jesus “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you WILL bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. (v5)”

During times of doubt, we can take encouragement knowing that God WILL provide the increase, the growth we need when we remain in Him and bear fruit!

Be encouraged this week!

Pastoral Search Update

Resumes continue to come in as we advertise our open lead pastor position. The pastoral search team is a wonderful example of unity and teamwork as they process all the incoming information. Several candidates have been identified in this new batch of resumes and we have requested further application info from them.

Please continue to pray that the Lord will show us His perfect will for our next pastor!

The next time you see a member of our search team, please share a word of encouragement with them! Our search team members are: Amy Erdman, Ashley Cassano, Dom Presutti, Dennis Lafferty, Gary Rader and Jordan Craft.

Summer Outreach

As we mentioned at our last Core Meeting, we were holding off on summer small groups so that as a church we could focus on an outreach event. The VBS survey results we sent out are in and while many people are willing to serve, the elders do not believe we have what is required to prepare for and lead the type of VBS we have all come to expect.

The elder team is working on an alternative that will allow us to meet members of the community as we have done at the Easter Egg hunt and at past VBS events, but with less preparation and fewer volunteers.

Our goal with this event will be to get to know those who attend and invite them to ALBC and our Fall small group semester.

We are targeting a Saturday later in the summer for this event with the goal of repeating it in the future to further our reach into the community.

Stay tuned for more details!

Adoption and Foster Meeting

Please consider joining us at 10 AM on Saturday, June 29th for a Foster Care Information Session hosted by the Salvation Army. The event will be held at Providence Church of the Brethren, and childcare will be provided.

Preaching Schedule

We hope the ongoing study of the Tabernacle and how it points to Christ has been a blessing to you. The goal is to learn from the meaning behind the Tabernacle and focus upon Christ as the source and object of our worship today.

Here are the upcoming speakers and topics:

June 16: The Lampstand - Deric Cheke

June 23: Altar of Incense - Franklin Lyasere

June 30: Table of Shewbread - Brian Jones

July 7: Ark of the Covenant - Gus Jones

July 14: Mercy Seat - Keith Yoder

2019-05-03 Elder Update

Dear ALBC,

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.
1 John 5:14-15

Here are some items to be looking forward to in May!

Don’t forgot about our Core Meeting this Sunday

Our next ALBC Core Members Meeting will be this Sunday, May 5th at 2pm. We’ll be sharing updates on the business of the church and other items the elder team has been working on.

Anyone who calls Abundant Life their church home is welcome to attend. We encourage you all to grab lunch with a fellow ALBC’er before returning for the meeting. We will try to keep the meeting between 60-90 minutes in length.

May Series: Strengthening Our Study of God’s Word

The purpose of our sermon series in May is threefold:

·         To inspire everyone in our congregation to engage in the abundant life that comes to us as we experience God speaking to us through His Word

·         To equip each one to encounter the truth of God with skills to observe, interpret, and apply the scriptures to our personal life and service

·         To promote greater joy in responding to God as we read, study, and meditate on the scriptures

In each message we encourage the speaker to include…

·         Specific skills or techniques that they find useful in his own study of scripture. (Here’s how I do it)

·         Where possible give the congregation a written guide or tip on how to employ them with a specific scripture as an example. (Here’s how you can do it)

·         Recommend practice (personal exploration) with a specific scripture for follow through as appropriate. (Now let’s do it)

Themes

May 5                    Tim Doering                        The Importance of the Study of God’s Word

May 12                 Keith Yoder                        Interpreting the Word of God

May 19                 Josh Parks*                        How to Study the Word of God

May 26                 Gary Rader                         Engaging the Word of God for Outreach

Other May highlights include:

·         A special focus on National Foster Care Month (May 5, 19, 26)

·         Communion (May 12)

If you have any questions and perspectives on our May series please see Courage Dhliwayo.

2019-04-17 Elder Update

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.” (Matthew 28:5-7)

 Dear Abundant Life,

We have so much to celebrate because of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus! We hope to see you all this weekend at ALBC as we celebrate Easter together!

Egg Hunt

What a great morning we had this past weekend! We thank the Lord for the opportunity to meet several new families from the community at our Easter Egg hunt and during the fellowship time afterwards. Many thanks to the Cheke and Bruton families as well as everyone who volunteered their time and resources to make this event a success. You can view pictures of the event on our facebook page.

Seder Meal:

Thank you to those who signed up for Friday night’s Seder meal. During the meal we will be talking about how the Israelite's freedom from Egypt foreshadowed Jesus' saving grace on the cross, looking at both the Old and New Testament. This is a free event, and you are welcome to bring guests, but if you haven’t signed up yet, please let Gary Rader know how many you are bringing prior to 5pm on Thursday.

If you have any questions, see John Supplee or Gary Rader.

Easter Sunday:

The highlight of Easter Week will be our Easter Service this Sunday, a joint celebration service with our friends at Providence starting at 9am on April 21st. The children of Grace Place will share a song leading into a time of worship led by ALBC. Pastor Tim Doering will then bring the Easter message followed by communion led by Pastor Curtis from Providence. We are looking forward to celebrating the free gift of salvation made possible by Jesus’ death and resurrection. Come celebrate Easter with us!

Our ushers will be looking to maximize our seating capacity. Please be sure to be on the lookout for any guests that may be looking for open seating.

Don’t forget to invite a friend!

Thank you for continuing to pray for the ongoing pastoral search! The search team is still considering candidates, and we ask that as a church we continue to ask the Lord for His ongoing wisdom and leading. Much work, prayer and discernment is going into this process.

Jeremiah 17:7-8
But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.

2019-02-28 Update

Dear Abundant Life,

Lengthening our Reach

We continue to examine the spiritual gifts Christ has given to the Church in our messages this month. The Lord is leading us to focus on how the ministry (equipping) gifts noted in Ephesians 4:11-12 empower us in particular ways to increase our REACH to others with the truth and love of Christ in our daily lives and local neighborhoods.

We would also encourage everyone who filled out a Spiritual Gifts Test to give a copy to Melissa LoRusso. It will be exciting to see the gifts that are represented at ALBC!

Upcoming Preaching Schedule

As we continue our study on spiritual gifts, the following men will be preaching in March.

March 3: Ministry Gifts (Apostolic) - Tim Doering

March 10: Ministry Gifts (Teaching) - Galen Hackman* (Communion)

Small Groups meeting in local homes the week of the March 10-16

March 17: Ministry Gifts (Evangelism) - Tim Doering

March 24: Ministry Gifts (Prophetic) - Keith Yoder

Small Groups meeting in local homes the week of the March 24-30

* Galen Hackman brings over 30 years of ministry experience as a pastor of several congregations in the US as well as serving as a missionary in Nigeria. He has an extensive teaching, coaching, consulting and writing ministry and was also a part of our interim selection process at Abundant Life. He has been a prayer warrior for ALBC, and we are looking forward to having him share what God has for us!

Easter Outreach

Saturday April 13th is the target to launch our first community outreach event of 2019. Plans are underway to host an Easter Egg hunt in the large field at church. If you would like to help, please see the Brutons or the Chekes. We are excited for this first opportunity to get our entire church involved in meeting those around us.

Software

Sam Batterman and Jeff Cassano are using the month of March to test new software for the church. This involves launching a new online church directory, giving our team leaders new ways to more effectively schedule our volunteers, and will result (hopefully) in a new and improved, consolidated church calendar. Stay tuned for more details later on this Spring.

Other Needs

We have some specific ways you can help ALBC this spring.

  • If you would like to head up decorating the church for Easter with poinsettias, please see Melissa LoRusso

  • We would like to be a blessing to our hosts at Providence by having a Spring clean-up and mulching day. Ideally this would happen before the Eater Egg Hunt Weekend. If you would like to head this up, please see Matt Gahman.

  • We are in need of updated photos for our website and facebook pages. If you have a talent for photography and would like to help in this way, please see Melissa LoRusso or Matt Gahman.
